Retrograde

You’re not hearing me. You’re not seeing me. You won’t let me put out the raging fire of pain you feel.

Here we go again, back to where you worked so hard to come from.

I can’t watch it. I can’t endure it. I passed that level of darkness. I led you out that chaos.

But you went back and opened that door. You told me you locked it, but you lied.

We can’t do this again. We can’t hold hands through that wildness. We declared this a safe space and I won’t let you ruin it.

Know what you’re doing by giving me your back… I have to walk away now to where we were headed. I will walk alone.

I can’t even say, “I’ll see you later” because I’m not even sure if you’ll catch up.

I’ll never forget how we protected each other and fought the good fight. You were the best companion in that maze out of there.

But you’re turning back now. I guess it ends here.
