The youth… are we really paying attention? They are emulating what we feel, what we’ve tucked inside, what we didn’t speak up on for generations.
How many of you watched your parents in a toxic relationship? How many of you watched domestic abuse and went to Sunday Dinner at Grandma’s like it was just another day? How many of you were sexually violated and didn’t realize until TikTok videos triggered you? How many of you were silenced and trained not to “complain” or “mutter a word”?
It’s ok.
You can correct it. We can correct it. Us millennial parents have to understand that our children are products of OUR trauma. The same way we didn’t know how to handle it; neither do they. BUT we are leaving them to fend for themselves because here we are in our 30s and tired. We’ve lived through so much… terrible presidents, crashing economies, impeachments, pointless wars, the birth of the internet, the death of cassettes, and so much more.
I’m overwhelmed, surely I am. However, you are not alone. The resources and tools we are equipped with are not being used for good. Our stars are falling, and I am scared.
I am scared because I can’t save them all myself. I have these healings hands and an open heart; I’m doing what I can. Some nights I just can’t, though. I weep and weep for the youth. I want them to be better than us. I wake up some days depressed because I know another child, someone’s CHILD, is no longer here because WE neglected to parent them the way we always wanted to be.
You can’t give up. We can’t give up. We all have to try a little bit harder because the youth… they scare me.
